There is a lovely island off the coast of Portugal where the mountains meet the ocean, time slows down, and the people truly know how to live life to the fullest. It is Madeira. This magical place is full of history, culture, and some of the most colorful and creative doors in the world. In the Old Town of Funchal, hundreds of doors are used as an artist paints on a canvas, a sculptor carves, another human being expresses the beauty and wonder that is inside themselves for all the world to see.
Made by hand, this 100% silk satin scarf is sure to be a conversation starter. The "Doors of Funchal" are whimsical, creative, and welcoming! Measuring 14" wide x 72" long, it was born in Madeira, created in America, manufactured in China, and enjoyed by people around the world.
The historical centre of the city of Funchal, better known as the “Zona Velha” (Old Town), is home of the "Painted Doors Project" which transforms this area into a permanent outdoor art gallery. This public art project highlights one of the most magical areas of Downtown Funchal. As you stroll Old Town, you are drawn to each door, as if you were in an outdoor art gallery. Along the Rua de Santa Maria, the decorative paintings on the doors of houses, restaurants, and shops continue to delight people from around the world, defining Funchal as one of the best places to find relaxation, beauty, and an artistic cornucopia of color, subject, and composition. This project is a result of a partnership between José Maria Zyberchema, João Carlos Abreu, former Regional Secretary of Tourism and Culture, the Municipality of Funchal in collaboration with private entities, including renowned personalities from the Madeira art scene, architect Paulo David and designer Nini Andrade Silva.
